Ethical Junction

Junction Network came in to existence in 1999. The website was intended to serve as portal for all things ethical – from consumers looking for organic compost to ethical businesses looking for finance, Ethical Junction was set up to provide a universal ethical resource to the public. Its constitution as a not-for-profit Community Interest Company, ensures 100% of any profit that is generated by Ethical Junction will be donated annually to causes that promote sustainable living. For the first few years at least, all surpluses will be donated to Action for Sustainable Living which is written into the Community Interest ‘Asset Lock’ as beneficiary of any assets.Income comes exclusively from our members, who are annually screened against our ethically positive criteria. This revenue is in the form of annual membership fees, job adverts and sponsorship of sections of the site. The Co-operative Financial Services (Co-operative Bank, Smile, CIS) have joined forces with Ethical Junction and this will lead to many new opportunities.Ethical Junction is currently undergoing a comprehensive makeover to improve the service to its members and users. This new web site includes EthicalSearch® our screened ethical search engine, enhanced listings, a powerful affiliate hub, a jobs section, a News Room collecting stories from the whole sector and many other new and useful features.Ethical Junction has been around for 7 years now, slowly but surely building a solid and dependable brand - it receives around 35,000 visitors per month and has a Google rating of 7/10. It has helped hundreds of ethical businesses gain a higher profile since it began. Natural Choices MediaNatural Choices Media is an online publishing company dedicated to supplying the latest news and information for consumers and businesses who want to make more ethically responsible choices in their day to day life and work. To try and live more ethically requires reliable sources on what is the story behind the headlines, the hard facts and the issues that need to be balanced to make an informed choice. Their journalists seek out the latest stories, products and services, looking behind the headlines and the labels to bring you the most up-to-date news and analysis to help you make those choices that fit best with your personal beliefs. The free access sites and newsletters provide a no cost, independent, informed news source for the growing community of people who believe that the choices we make in our work and life can have a major impact on the environment and can positively support human rights and economic development in the world.Shared Interest“Shared Interest is a co-operative lending society that aims to reduce poverty in the world, by providing fair and just financial services. It was started in 1990 and has around 8,400 members who have invested more than £20 million. We use the pooled savings of our members to facilitate fair trade.

We work with fair trade businesses all over the world, both producers and buyers, providing credit to enable producers to be paid in advance and to help fair trade develop.

We are members of IFAT - the International Fair Trade Association.

Shared Interest is owned and controlled by it’s membership.

The Society’s Governance involves a Board of Directors, responsible for the direction and management of the Society. Members elect the Directors at the AGM. The Directors report to members each year and answer members’ questions.

There is also a Council, a body which serves to represent the membership. The Council has the power to question the Directors and management and if it sees fit, to address the membership independently. To ensure the Council is a representative body it is comprised of members who have been randomly selected for nomination and members who volunteer for the role. Members elect the Council at the AGM.

Each member has an equal voice and vote, regardless of account size. We take the views of our members seriously and invite comment from the membership through our members newsletter - Quarterly Return, regional meetings and the Annual General Meeting, held in March each year. At the AGM, members also get the opportunity to vote on issues affecting the society.”
